August Challenges 2014

This month my husband and I will be completing 3 August challenges.
A plank a day
The August challenge from Well-Girl
and the Give it your Allgust challenge from Blogilates

We have recently moved from Texas to Arizona, and basically have to start over with meeting people to workout with. Then, my husband says he needs to get back in shape so I decided we should do this together. What better way to have accountability then with someone in your own home. The best part is when our little one joins in. ADORABLE.

We plan on completing all three of these calenders. After day one my back (which I injured in May) already feels better from Blogilates day of stretching.

All these challenges are posted for free and are a great way to get a workout in without paying for a gym membership. If you give yourself accountability at home then you don't need to go anywhere to get sweaty.

How do you stay accountable with your goals?

Food Of the Day: Blueberries

Blueberries (or as I call them BOOM-berries) are an amazing little fruit. Here are the factoids:

  • high in fiber (good for digestive tract)
  • Vitamins A-C-E (for eye health)
  • Vitamin B (for energy)
  • Try to buy organic (if not organic-they will contain a higher level of pesticides then desired)
  • eat on an empty stomach or with leafy green (see recipe below)
BOOM-Berry Banana BooYa Smoothie!
1/2 c H2O
1c blueberries
1 banana
a handful of kale

Blend it up and enjoy!

Food of the Day #1-Grapefruit

Welcome to food of the day #1-Grapefruit

I won't bore you with all the research I've done concerning grapefruit. I'll just tell you 5 reasons why you should be eating grapefruit.

  1. It's cheap (around .50 per grapefruit-sometimes cheaper-and you really only need to eat half a grapefruit in one sitting)
  2. vitamin C and Lots of it (helps your immune system)
  3. lycopen builds collagen in your skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite
  4. it's on the Environmental Working Group's clean 15 list (the 15 fruits/veggies with the LEAST amount of chemical residue and pesticides)
  5. Grapefruit is delicious! (if you don't like eating the pulp etc, squeeze it into a glass and drink)
Always eat fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit only takes about 30 minutes to digest and you will reap the beneficial nutrients faster without other foods inhibiting it in your stomach.
